NAMA Facility Donors – the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS); the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU); the European Union and the Danish Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Climate (EKFM) – have approved funding to support the implementation of an ambitious NAMA Support Project in The Gambia as part of the NAMA Facility’s 4th Call. Due to domestic political events in The Gambia, this Support Project experienced some delay and is now the final 4th Call project to be approved for the Implementation Phase.

The Investing in Grid-Connected Solar PV in The Gambia seeks to provide up to 10.5MW of renewable energy to the country and demonstrate the viability of international investment in the sector. The technical cooperation component of the Support Project will be led by the United Nations Development Programme, and the financial cooperation component by the United Nations Capital Development Fund.

Following the Detailed Preparation Phase, during which the Support Project worked to further elaborate the proposed project concept, a comprehensive Proposal was submitted to the NAMA Facility. Based on an in-depth assessment of the Proposal, Donors then approved the Support Project to enter the Implementation Phase.

The NAMA Facility’s support for this Project illustrates the Donors’ continued commitment to ambitious climate action.
